Additional money paid for last summer's mountain man program that didn't happen
due to the fire will be deposited into those scouts' individual accounts. (Eric,
Paul, Kelly, David, and Michael)
Klondike actually cost $8 per attendee so adults that went need to pay Mr. Bastian.
February Wrap-Up:
Klondike: 30 scouts and 14 adults attended, 45 frost points were earned.
All had a good time. It was suggested that the Klondike list of materials needed
should be given to parents prior to Christmas, so items needed could be purchased
as Christmas gifts for the scouts.
Webelos: 5 bridging ceremonies of Webelos coming into our troop have
been attended by troop representatives, accounting for 18 new scouts, bringing
the new troup total to 56 scouts.
Elections: New patrol leaders were elected. Those elected had to have
attended the Patrol Leader's Training Session held in February. A reminder was
given that being an assistant patrol leader does not count as a leadership position.
Junior Leader Training weekend held Feb. 1st: 16 scouts attended. Discussed
all leaders' roles in the troop, how they saw the troop being run, and suggestions
for future. Items suggested for future meetings were to try to keep meetings
more organized but still fun, so things run smoothly. Team building was emphasized
and what it means to be a leader.
Colin M.'s Eagle Project:
He will be placing 6 to 8 wood duck houses at the Environmental Learning Center.
The houses will be donated by Front Range Community College; scouts will dig
the holes, mount houses on the poles, and cement them into the ground. Poles
will be 8 to 12 feet high. Work will be done on April 5tf with April 19th as
a back-up date.
Jason N.'s Eagle Project:
Jason's project will be completed this Saturday from 8 a.m. until the work is
done. The delay last time was due to barbed nails that took from 9 a.m. until
2 p.m. to remove. Jason has checked and the last 2 bridges to be completed have
been bolted down instead. It was restated that before age 18 all merit badges
as well as scoutmaster conferences need to be completed along with the Eagle
book and signatures. The board of review can take place within 3 months of the
18th birthday.
March Events:
Court of Honor- 6 scouts are advancing in rank. Patrols have been given
assignments for refreshment items to bring.
Chimney Park Camp-out- reserved for Mar. 28th -30th. Need to have opportunities
for open-fire cooking, and stove cooking. There is a dry building to sleep in.
Jaime M. and Mike E. will be going.
New Business:
Enrollment Cap Discussion- Are friends and former troop 188 scouts going
to be allowed above and beyond our cap of 50 scouts? After a lengthy discussion
it was decided that recruiting will be discouraged and we will consider new
arrivals on a case-by-case basis. We will set the cap at a firm enrollment of
50 at Webelos bridging time, then consider new scouts on a case-by-case basis.
A returning scout would have priority over a friend.
High Adventure Trip- reservations have been made for the campgrounds
already. The total cost will be $350.
Summer Camp- 26 scouts are going so far. Next payment due at the Court
of Honor.
April Camp-out- weekend of April 12th or 19th at the Rotary Lodge. Terry
M. will call about it. A camp-out coordinator will be named next meeting.
Fund-raisers- ideas and coordinators are needed. Anna Marie E. will call
Jax to see about selling hot dogs out in front on a Saturday.
Order of the Arrow- elections were done 2 weeks ago.
Discussion on the need for patrol leaders to start calling their patrols again
to remind scouts of upcoming activities. This practice had been very effective
for communication in the past but has not been carried out lately. It needs
to be resurrected again.
Next committee meeting, Wed. April 2nd at Terry's house.
