Old Business
Court of Honor: a quick review of the past month's Court of Honor
indicated that Andy did a nice job of keeping things moving. Improved
behavior and leadership of the troop was noticed. The Power Point
program that was put together of the year in review had a last
minute glitch but will be ready for the next Court of Honor. Terry
indicated some sort of advancement ladder or other symbol would
be a nice addition to the ceremony.
Board of Review: 2 scouts were not signed off on Scout Spirit. Norm indicated they did not fulfill the requirement of acting according to the 12 points indicated in the front of the scout manual. They have signed up for another scoutmaster conference following the next camp-out.
New Business:
Upcoming camp-out September 15-17: to be held at Hermit Park,
4.2 mile southwest of Estes Park. Greg is interested in finding
more drivers and adults to attend. They will leave Linton parking
lot at 4 p.m. on Friday. Permission forms will be given out at
the Sept. 12th meeting. Food will also be planned then.
Next year's summer camp: needs to be decided early enough to get reservations in on time. Camp Laramie Peak in Wyoming is being considered. Advantages of this camp are its Mountain Man program and that our troop could work on a rock climbing merit badge with Scott H., Assistant Scoutmaster and Boy Scout Camping Chairman for Thompson-Poudre. Terry will be checking on minimum age requirement for the Mountain Man program--it was 13, but Terry thinks it may have been upped to age 14.
Venture Patrol: was introduced at the Court of Honor. Currently the only members are Andy and Nic, who are officially Leadership, and as such can participate in the activities of any other patrol. Boys eligible for the Venture Patrol will leave their old patrol, and new leaders will be elected for their old patrol.
Patrols: may plan their own activities such as day outings, making flags, or anything above and beyond the troop activities. The question was raised, how many adult leaders must be involved in patrol activities? Terry will bring it up at Round Table discussions. It was also suggested that the phone tree for troop activities be activated prior to the night before a meeting. This would give scouts more warning about upcoming activities.
Patrol Boxes: Norm has a prototype almost ready--it just needs some sort of leg support which he will be investigating this week. These boxes will be used for each patrol to store their own cooking and washing up gear for camp-outs. Any garage sale items or donations of cookware or utensils would be appreciated. The boxes will cost about $100 each, and 5 boxes are being made which will easily fit in the funk of a vehicle and can be carried by 2 scouts. It was decided that Saturday, September 23 would be the day the boxes will be assembled. Patrols will be called for help.
Fall Camporee: Oct. 13,14, and 15th at Bonner Peak. Scout skill competitions will be held: mountain biking, pioneering, first aid, knots, etc. There will be timed scored events with teams of 4 or 5 scouts competing. It is hoped the instructional part of the day will be done by the older scouts. Andy and Jason have volunteered to work on the mountain biking course. Boys may bring their own bikes, but it is not encouraged--bikes will be available for use. There may be a service project available that weekend also. A tentative count of attendees will be taken Tuesday night.
Board of Reviews: A motion was made by Norm and seconded by Greg that scoutmaster conferences should not take place on the same night as Board of Review. Scouts will be informed that they need to schedule a scoutmaster conference as soon as they feel they have completed their requirements. They need to schedule it at least one week ahead of time and be prepared for their conference by having their books with them. Scoutmaster conferences will be held the Tuesday after this weekend's campout, Sept. 19th.
Website: A reminder was given of the troop's website at www.troop188.org
Next meeting: Thursday, October 5th, at Linton. (Rescheduled
for Sunday, October 8th, at Terry's house.)
