Boy Scout Troop 188 Committee Meeting

January 17, 1999

 

Present: Norm B., Terry M., Roberta T., John F., Gerri F., Dick H., and Jim V.

November's minutes were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report: The Troop checking account has $1893.88. the Greeley account has $63.20 (checked 1/19).

Roberta has set up Scout accounts for each of the boys and is in the process of transferring popcorn sales profits into them.

- The following boys have paid for their 1999 registration and dues: Andy F, Colin M., Eamonn M. and Tim M.

-Nic B., Paul E., Dustin H., Matt R., Phillip T. and Ryan V. have paid $16.00 towards 1999 registration and owe $34.00 each for dues.

-John H. owes $50.00 plus last year's pro-rated amount of $12.75.

This money should be paid ASAP.

Troop Meeting Itinerary:

January 19 - Klondike checklist, safe winter camping

January 26 - PLC and Board of Review. Look into plans for building Klondike sled.

February 2 - Court of Honor

February 9 - Klondike menus and equipment review

February 16 - No gym available that day (possible first aid training at PRPA)

February 23 - PLC, OA elections by secret ballot. Norm went over OA eligibility criteria (1st class rank, 15 nights of camp 6 of which have to be on long-term campout).

Only scout eligible at this time is Andy F. 1 adult per unit can also be elected.

February 26 - Klondike Derby through February 28. Norm will look into borrowing sled, Terry will contact EMS about snowshoe rental rates.

Long term planning: John F. will re-call Norad for a date to tour the facility - the tentative date for this is open.

April 17-18: Campout at Pingree Park.

May 14-16: Spring Camporee

June 5 - 12: High Adventure mountain bike trip to Moab, Utah. For 1st Class + 13 yrs and older.

No estimated costs have been determined yet. Committee may add the First Aid merit badge and CPR training to trip requirements.

June 27 - July 3: Summer camp at Camp Laramie Peak. Terry will send registration deposit of $200.00 and try to reserve the Omaha campsite for the troop. If the troop meets its 1999 FOS goal of $280.00 (set by district), camp fees will amount to $115.00 per boy. Fee payment: $10.00 per scout upon reservation, $40.00 by 2/1, $40.00 by 3/15 and the remainder ($25.00) due by 5/1.

Merit Badge University: MBU will continue January 23 at Front Range Community College.

Mall Popcorn Sale: The troop sold popcorn at the mall on December 22 and 23, 1998. Tim, Eamonn and Colin M., Andy F. and Ryan V. sold $376.00 on the 22, Eamonn and Colin M., Nic B. and Dustin H. sold $362.00 on the 23. These boys will receive 25% of the profit (30% of the total sold) for their scout accounts.

District Recognition Dinner: will be held Friday, February 5 at FCHS Performing Arts Center.

Troop 188 has been awarded the hosting of the dinner which will consist of finger foods, drinks and desserts. The Bronze Bighorns are in charge of set up and decorations; they asked for risers for the group photo area. The troop needs to provide 6 - 10 white tablecloths, food, drinks, and paper products. Terry is talking to Mary's Mountain Cookies, Pepsi and others for donations. John F. will talk to representatives from Nobel/Sisco and A-Z Party Rentals for help in obtaining food and party trays. Large coffee urns are needed. It was recommended to plan food for 350. Gerri stressed that the boys be fully prepped for their roles as servers. They should be in full uniform, well- groomed (including clean nails and brushed teeth), and gloved. The schedule was given as follows:
 6:00 - 6:45 - Gathering, "mingling and munching" in foyer
 6:45 - Advancing to McNeal Auditorium for awards presentation
 7:00 - 8:30 - Awards and recognition
 8:30 - 9:00 - Dessert, photos in staged area

The troop will be able to get into the building for set up at 4:00 p.m.
Adults from each family are required to help out. Norm suggested meeting with custodians to go over what will occur, what is needed, etc. (6 trash cans, coat racks projector, screen). John is meeting with the Drama Dept. for entertainment and lighting. The committee will meet again Friday January 22 at Terry's to report on planning progress.

Web Page: Norm has designed the Troop's page and it is up and running. It consists of Troop Information, News, a Calendar, Patrol Lists (he will leave the boys' last names off for security reasons), a Gallery, and Links. The address is www.bsa.net/co/t188/

New Business:

1. Neckerchiefs need to be purchased prior to induction of new Scouts graduating in March.

2. John urged the troop to provide Akela Award information to graduating Webelos.

3. The District has asked units to provide them with 3 prioritized items (sentences) concerning what they need to do for 1999. They asked for this information by February 12, 1999 and can e-mail to Bill Emslie at EmslieB@frii.com.

4. John knows an individual that is selling 2 used Coleman stoves and lanterns. Jim will try to purchase these and donate them to the Troop.

The next Troop committee meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on February 7 at Terry's.
